What Is Meta Muse? The 2026 Guide

Last updated: October 6, 2026

You've probably seen the name in app store charts, in group chats, in headlines about AI agents that shop for you. Here's the plain version. Meta Muse (usually just called "Muse from Meta") is Meta's personal AI agent. It answers your questions, then goes off and does things on your behalf. It launched on September 8, 2026, and within weeks it sat at the top of the free app charts.

This guide covers what it is, what it can do, what it costs, and whether to trust it with your accounts. Plain words throughout.

What Muse is

Most AI products wait for you to type, then answer. Muse starts from a goal instead. You say "find me a flight under $300 and hold the fare," and it works the steps itself: opening apps, reading pages, filling in forms, checking with you only when a decision needs a human.

It runs on Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 model, inside what Meta calls a secure virtual environment: a locked-down computer in the cloud where the agent works, separate from your phone. That separation gives the agent hands. It browses the web and works through multi-step tasks while you're doing something else.

You can get it as an iPhone or Android app, as a Mac app, on the web at muse.ai, and inside WhatsApp. Right now it's US and Canada only, and you need to be 18 or older.

5 things it can do

  1. Shop and check out. This is the flagship demo. Muse finds products and completes purchases through retail integrations: Shopify and Shop Pay, Expedia for hotels, PayPal across its merchants.
  2. Book and schedule. Trips, restaurant reservations through OpenTable, calendar work across Google Calendar and Outlook.
  3. Work inside your apps. The late-September 2026 push for small business connected it to workplace tools: Asana, Slack, Notion, Zoom, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks, Klaviyo.
  4. Handle your inbox and your health data. The Gmail and Outlook connectors read and draft email, and send it once you approve.
  5. Run errands on the open web. Muse drives a real browser inside its virtual environment and uses sites the way you would.

How the app connections work

The mechanism is called a connector. It links Muse to one of your accounts with the provider's blessing.

Each connector gets a permission level from you. Start with read-only when analysis is all you need, and grant write access once you want it acting on your behalf. You can revoke any of them anytime in Settings → Connectors.

I keep a full, source-backed list of every confirmed Muse connector at drewmailen.com/muse-connector-directory. Forty and counting, each with a cited source, updated weekly.

What it costs

  • Free, $0. Up to 100 million tokens a week.
  • Power, $20 a month. 500 million tokens a week.
  • Maximum, $100 a month. 3 billion tokens a week.

A token is a unit of compute. Meta doesn't publish a tidy tokens-to-tasks conversion, so read the tiers as how much you can use it.

Is it safe?

  • Approvals are the whole game. By default, Muse asks before doing anything irreversible.
  • The plumbing is serious. Connections use OAuth-style authorization, so the agent never sees your raw passwords.
  • The caveats are real. A permission flaw surfaced within days of launch, and Amazon blocked its shopping traffic outright.

Start read-only, and keep anything customer-facing or financial on "ask first."

How to start in 2 minutes

  1. Download the Muse app, open muse.ai, or find it in WhatsApp, then sign in with a Meta account.
  2. Connect one low-stakes app. Go to Settings → Connectors and pick something like Spotify or Google Calendar.
  3. Give it a small job. "Summarize my unread emails from today" works.
